Congregations

Tompkins Square Park

The Tompkins Square Park Congregation was founded on Christmas Day, 2010. More than one hundred people showed up on a cold, gray overcast day for prayer and a true Christmas feast. The meal offered hot apple cider, baked ham, fried chicken. Pastor Clyde welcomed everyone and made introductory remarks. Pastor Bill offered the invocation and blessing. Currently a group of 30 to 50 gather for prayer and a meal. The congregation will begin weekly, full Eucharistic services in the early spring.

Marcus Garvey Park

The Marcus Garvey Park Congregation was founded on Easter Day, 2009. Twenty-six hearty individuals attended the first Eucharist celebrated in this park on a sunny brisk afternoon. Pastor Clyde welcomed everyone and made introductory remarks. The Rev. Earl Kooperkamp officiated and preached. Members of St. Mary’s Manhattanville Episcopal Church (one of our participating ‘housed’ congregations) provided a meal enjoyed by all. We have had as many as 100 at a service, but our attendance is rather steady at 28 in the warm months and 18 in the winter.

Madison Square Park

The Madison Square Park Congregation was founded on the Day of Pentecost, 2007. Thirty eight souls attended the first Eucharist celebrated in this park on a sunny and pleasantly warm Sunday afternoon. Pastor Clyde welcomed everyone and made introductory remarks. The Rev. David Lewicki officiated and preached. A second (earthly meal) was provided by members of the Marble Collegiate Church (one of our participating ‘housed’ congregations) and enjoyed in a real spirit of fellowship among all those who attended.
